LAS VEGAS — Ian Clark continued his impressive play in the NBA summer league, scoring a team-high 19 points in 29 minutes off the bench Monday night as the Nuggets improved to 3-0 with an 86-83 victory over the Miami Heat at Cox Pavilion on the UNLV campus.
Denver outscored Miami 50-42 in the second half and committed only nine turnovers overall. Miami dropped to 1-1.
Clark, a guard from Belmont, was 5-for-8 on 3-point attempts.
Denver’s starting guards, Gary Harris and rookie Emmanuel Mudiay, combined for 22 points and 8-of-23 shooting.
Mudiay, the No. 7 pick in the June 25 draft, had a game-high eight assists but committed five turnovers in 33½ minutes of playing time.
Erick Green, like Clark a backup guard, played nearly 21 minutes and scored 11 points for the Nuggets.
Shabazz Napier led Miami with a game-high 20 points.
Miami outrebounded Denver 33-31. Starting forward Joffrey Lauvergne grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Nuggets and scored 11 points in 28 minutes. Starting center Nikola Jokic scored eight points for Denver but grabbed only three rebounds in 20½ minutes.
Miami rookie forward Justise Winslow, who helped Duke win the national championship as a freshman before declaring for the NBA draft, played only 12 minutes against Denver. He finished with three points.
