Despite advances, Colorado still has a ways to go in reducing gun violence. Rather than a modern state, we appear somewhat stone-age in last Friday’s headlines:
“Aurora boy in hospital for gunshot” — A 7-year-old was shot in the head by a loaded gun left by an irresponsible adult where children were playing.
“Sheriff to test rifles to help solve slaying of man hit at campsite” — Irresponsible target shooters ignored signs that shooting was prohibited in the campsite area. Now a 60-year-old man celebrating the 4th of July holiday has lost not just his freedom, but his life.
“Aurora parole officer cleared in shooting” — An officer wounded a man who pulled a semi-automatic handgun out of his waistband.
“Olathe man suspected of twice shooting dog in head, cutting its throat”
“2 men killed by gunfire” — Two men were shot and killed outside a Thornton apartment building.
Colorado, we are a state with much beauty, but gun violence continues as a tragic stain.
