Fort Morgan police checking on a man and woman in the parking lot of the town’s Walmart found 16 pounds of methamphetamine in their rental car valued at more than $700,000.

Jazmin Elguezabal, 21, and Jonathan Potzler, 28, both from Arizona, were arrested Saturday after the drugs were found in the 2015 Nissan Versa, police said Tuesday.

Police say they were called to the duo’s car by Potzler who complained there was a “female person in his car who would not get out of the vehicle.”

Potzler apparently thought he was in Tucson, according to police. Officers found the meth within luggage in the vehicle.

Police say the bust is the largest seizure of meth in one incident by the Eastern Plains police force, according to police.

“The drugs were in large cylindrical packages about 8 to 12 inches long, wrapped in foil and covered with grease and what appeared to be spray foam insulation,” police said.

Potzler and Elguezabal have been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful distribution, manufacture, dispensing or sale of a controlled substance.

Both are being held without bail, police say.
