A from a Denver Post reporter about the stench at Red Rocks was met with surprise by venue officials who said it was news to them.
Ricardo Baca, the editor of The Denver Post’s The Cannabist and former music critic who penned the letter, described the stench on the east stairs and stage right bathrooms as “disgusting,” “an embarrassment,” and compared it to “the worst port-a-potty experience you’ve ever witnessed.”
He said friends had warned him about the smell earlier this month and it was bad on Sunday.

The executive director of Denver Arts and Venues, which manages Red Rocks, was surprised to hear of the letter and its complaints Tuesday.
“Honestly, that’s the first I’ve heard of it,” said Kent Rice,the director, adding the he would look into it.
No one has made an official complaint about the smell, Jordan Bishop, a spokesperson for Arts and Venues, said.
“This is actually the very first time that we have heard about this,” Bishop said. “Of course, we’ll be dedicating staff to investigate.”
Bishop followed up with an email about the “meticulous” cleaning Red Rocks receives after every concert — including pressure washing of some seating areas and crews that tend to restrooms during and after the shows.
“Simply put, the venue is thoroughly clean,” he wrote.
