I agree that we need electronic traffic controls (photo radar, etc.). Our traffic control officers need all the help they can get to enforce our traffic driving laws. I do not agree that the fines should be used to raise funds for the city’s general account.
I understand the temptation to use fines generated by these devices to fill city coffers. One possible solution to the problem would be to divert these monies (after direct operating expenses have been deducted) to the city street maintenance fund with the stipulation that these funds be spent only on repairing the potholes and leveling the manhole covers in our city streets.
Eliminating these road hazards would prevent possible traffic accidents.
