Interview with Mark A. Williams, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: My wife and I found that some things are just being thrown to the curb without being given a second chance. So we would find a new home for things at a used price on Craigslist. Well, we would get too much traffic in my neighborhood and someone would complain.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Gently Used 2 has something new every day. Sometimes it may be hard to find in a store of thousands of items, but it is next to that hidden gem I put in there last week. Not now, but soon I will be selling things on eBay, and you can look for my user ID name and save on shipping or even buy it now.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: It is just like some popular television shows on PBS or the History Channel — you never know what’s going to walk through the door or what I will find on my quest for new inventory.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Two words: “start up.” Starting new is a challenge for any new business. Profit seems like it is miles away. Next, of course, is getting the word out. I plan to talk to realtors who have monthly newsletters to see if I can run an ad in it.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I will have a nonperishable food bin in the store to help Food Bank of the Rockies. I have been there and know there is a real need. My family would volunteer at 4425 Kipling St. when they used to have it on the weekends.
