There were moments during Monday’s candlelight vigil at The Potter’s House of Denver for the victims of the Aurora theater shooting when the wind or the lightly-falling drizzle would douse a flame.

But only briefly.

“It was perfect in a way,” said Heather Dearman, a cousin of Ashley Moser, one of the 70 people injured in the attack three years ago. “There have been times when my candle has gone out, but I talked with friends here or leaned on family or even strangers and they have always lighted my candle again.”

Dearman spoke not far from the church’s Hope Park, where last year 13 trees were planted, one for each of the victims who died, including Ashley’s 6-year-old daughter, Veronica Moser-Sullivan, and “Baby Moser,” Ashley’s unborn child.
