
University of Colorado Hospital is the state’s best hospital, with 11 medical specialties ranked among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report, which released its Tuesday.
The nation’s top-ranked hospital is Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
The rankings are intended to help the 90,000 patients admitted each day to U.S. hospitals make a good choice. The ranking is based on objective data, including death rates and patient safety, but also includes surveys of physicians asked to name the best facilities in their specialties.
UC Hospital, the academic medical center of University of Colorado Health, was ranked second in the nation with partner National Jewish Health in pulmonology, or lung specialties.
In Colorado, the top-ranked hospitals are:
1. University of Colorado Hospital
2. Porter Adventist Hospital
3. Penrose-St. Francis Health Services
4. Sky Ridge Medical Center
4. Poudre Valley Hospital
4. Memorial Hospital
7. Good Samaritan Medical Center
7. Denver Health Medical Center
7. Medical Center of the Rockies
10. Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center
Craig Hospital, though not ranked in the top 10 overall, was ranked seventh in the nation for rehabilitation of injuries.
UC Hospital was highly ranked in treating kidney disorders, 12th; cancer, 15th; orthopedics, 25th; and, neurology and neurosurgery, 26th. All five UCHealth hospitals were listed among the top 10 in Colorado, by the magazine.
Nationwide, rounding out the top five hospitals are the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.; John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore; UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles; and Cleveland Clinic.
