Dynel Lane, suspect in Longmont stabbing of pregnant woman, set for arraignment

, the woman accused of cutting out an expecting mother’s unborn child in a Longmont attack earlier this year, is scheduled to appear in Boulder County Court Thursday to be arraigned.

Lane is expected to enter a plea at the hearing.

Authorities say Michelle Wilkins’ unborn child — whom she planned to name Aurora — was removed by the 35-year-old Lane on March 18 in a horrific, pre-meditated attack.

Lane has been , including first-degree unlawful termination of pregnancy.The case was bound over for trial after a in which grisly details of the alleged crime were made public.

Wilkins told a Longmont police detective that as Lane held her down and tried smothering her with a pillow, she briefly thought that compassion could end the brutal attack.

“I love you,” Wilkins said as she struggled in the basement of Lane’s home, pinned down on the bed of one of her attacker’s daughters.

“If you love me, you’ll let me do this,” Lane replied, according to Wilkins’ account to police, before cutting out Wilkins’ fetus.

Lane is being held at the Boulder County jail in lieu of $2 million bail.

Authorities say Lane lured Wilkins to her home through a Craiglist advertisement for the sale of baby clothes.

The Boulder County coroner’s office last month ruled the death of Wilkins’ unborn child to be ” .”
