
Three people have been charged in separate incidents for assaulting peace officers or first responders, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.
• Anthony Dennis, 25, is charged with second-degree assault on a peace officer in connection with allegations that on July 18, he refused to return to his jail cell following a disturbance and spit in the face of a sheriff’s deputy.
• Michael Francis, 22, is charged with second-degree assault on a peace officer following allegations that as he was being booked into the Denver Detention Center on Sunday, he became upset about not being able to use a phone and punched a sheriff’s deputy and then scratched him and ripped his uniform.
• Amber Groessel, 24, is charged with second-degree assault and third-degree assault following allegations that while resisting efforts to take her to the hospital on Sunday, she assaulted two emergency medical service providers as she hit them, spit on them and scratched them.
Officials said Dennis remains in custody with several pending cases; his bond on the new assault charge is $50,000. Francis remains in custody on a hold from another jurisdiction; his bond on the new assault charge is $10,000. And Groessel remains in custody; her bond is set at $10,000. They are scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Friday.
