The Westin Hotel, currently under construction at the south end of Denver International Airportap main terminal, opens in November. (Brent Lewis, Denver Post file)
Re: “Original DIA architect: Airport hotel is a black eye,” July 21 letter to the editor.
Architect Jim Bradburn (who designed Denver International Airportap main terminal) would have developed a most wonderful DIA hotel. Instead we have this black eye of a hotel hiding our iconic airport architecture. More times than I can count, I have heard people say of this building, “It looks like the tail of a whale.”

This letter was published in the July 24 edition. The Westin Hotel design is unique, evoking thoughts of a ship — more so an ark. But because it is monstrous, dark and foreboding, a better name might be “The Death Star” (from “Star Wars”).
