Through a sprinkle of rain and a wash of reverb, DIIV shut down the main stage for Friday night at the UMS.

True to the main stage headliners of 2014, the band gave a performance ideal for half-zoning-out in a happy, buzzed daze. The crowd was nowhere near as raucous as it was for In The Whale, but they were appreciating it in their own late-night way. A half-full Main Stage watched trancelike as the band introduced a few new songs.

But the best part was frontman Zachary Cole Smith introducing the band between every song — pronouncing the band name as both “dive” and “div.”
