A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 6 in Lakewood on Thursday afternoon left a 51-year-old woman dead and a boy injured.
Police say the wreck happened about 4:45 p.m. when the driver of a black Ford Focus eastbound on U.S. 6 became distracted and drifted out of his lane.
“In an attempt to regain control, he over corrected and went into the right lane colliding with a Toyota 4Runner,” according to a police news release. “The collision caused the 4Runner, driven by Kimberly Henderson, of Golden, to leave the roadway.”
Police say Henderson’s vehicle rolled several times and collided with wire fencing that protects light rail tracks in the area.
Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
A boy who was riding in the 4Runner was taken to a hospital with moderate, non-life threatening injuries.
“At this time, there are no indications that drugs or alcohol are involved,” the release said. “The evidence on scene indicates that speed was not a factor in the crash.”
Police say Andrew Huerena, 35, was driving the Focus and is suspected of two counts of careless driving causing injury or death.
