It’s almost a cliche but small start-up companies have some common traits: Their employees dress casually, they like having dogs in the office and there is always beer.
Brennan Gilbert, 27, of , a start-up that creates mobile data collection software, is putting on an event that combines almost all of these qualities (minus the dogs).
is an event that pairs start-ups with homebrewing in an attempt to raise money for a worthy charity.
Twenty start-ups will pour as many as 30 homebrewed beers for attendees at the event Aug. 7 that begins at 5 p.m. at the McNichols Building. All event proceeds will benefit the , a non-profit from Franktown that provides equine assisted activities and therapies for people with disabilities.
“We realized there are a lot of people in start-ups who enjoy drinking and making beers, so we thought ‘Why not also make it a charitable event?'” he said. “This combines beer, start-ups and networking and charity and the community.”
Gilbert brewed 20 gallons for his company — a total of four beers: a Belgian dark, a Belgian blond, a red ale and an American wheat. Now in its second year, the fest is named after the financial position many start-ups find themselves in.
“In the start-up community, it is a very common phrase, starting from the ground up and pulling up your bootstraps,” he said.
