New car and truck registrations in Colorado rose 7 percent in June from the same month a year earlier, and are up 5.4 percent for the first half of the year versus the same period last year.
A total of 19,082 new cars and trucks were registered in June versus 17,839 the same month a year earlier, according to the Colorado Auto Outlook Report for the month.
Automobile purchases this year are on track to hit their highest levels in a decade. And if the trend continues, the state could set a record for new auto registrations next year, Tim Jackson, president of the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association, said in a statement.
Lower gasoline prices continue to support the trend of Colorado drivers favoring compact and luxury SUVs and light and full-size pickup trucks. Among the brands with the biggest gains in registrations this year are Chrysler, Porsche, Lincoln, Mazda, GMC and Buick. All of them are up by more than 15 percent.
Used-car registrations rose 6.2 percent in the first half of the year, with higher-end European brands seeing some of the biggest increases.
