Several Silverthorne blocks in a residential neighborhood were evacuated Wednesday evening after a pickup truck crashed into a house and crushed a natural gas line.

Lake Dillon Fire Rescue said the crash happened about 7 p.m. on the 900 block of Rainbow Drive.

Officials say the pickup “swerved off the road and crashed through the closed garage door of the unoccupied home.” The driver sustained minor injuries, the fire department said, but declined treatment.

“Natural gas spewed from the broken utility pipe inside home, prompting the precautionary evacuation of about three square blocks for an hour while workers from Xcel Energy cut off the gas,” the fire department said .

Fire officials say they worked to ventilate the area.

“The pickup was left partially intruding into the home until building officials can determine the structural integrity to prevent any collapse,” the post said.
