Brighton police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash Wednesday morning in the northbound lanes of U.S. 85 that strangled morning traffic and led to closures several hours long.
Police say the motorcycle was northbound on the highway near 168th Avenue when a Ford Escape, heading south, turned into its path.
“The motorcycle struck the Ford Escape broadside and both vehicles came to a stop in the intersection,” police said in a news release. “The motorcycle rider was ejected and died from his injuries at the scene.”
The crash happened just after 5 a.m.
Photos from the scene, taken by a television news helicopter, showed emergency responders at the scene directing traffic off the highway.
Authorities say the identity of the motorcyclist will not be released until his family has been notified.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be involved, the release said. The accident is still under investigation.
Brighton police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Detective Mike Payne at 303-655-2367.
