Forecasters are calling for a high near 95 degrees in Denver on Wednesday under sunny skies. The National Weather Service in Boulder says there will be light winds in the afternoon blowing up to 8 mph.

“There will be a slight chance of late day showers and thunderstorms today, mainly over the mountains, foothills and south Park (County),” the weather service said in a forecast bulletin.

Some of the storms could bring wind gusts up to 50 mph, forecasters say.

Precipitation is expected mainly after 1 p.m.

The weather service says Thursday will be hot, dry and breezy under a high pressure ridge.

“Another hot day on Friday, but with some increase in moisture late in the day,” the bulletin said. “The ridge of high pressure will shift to the southeast over the weekend allowing for a moist southwesterly flow aloft over the state.”

The weekend, starting Friday night, will see a “better chance” of showers and thunderstorms.
