Contractor Randy Henckel, left, works with Plan Review Technician Nadine Garcia to get building permits for a demolition and remodel for a new home at the Development Services building permit office at the Webb building in Denver on Aug. 6. (Helen H. Richardson, The Denver Post)

Re: “Denver contractors, waiting for permits, struggle to start projects,” Aug. 6 news story.

I am a structural engineer who deals daily with many frustrated builders who are waiting up to 16 weeks for their permits. Absent from your story was a solution that has been used by Denver and other jurisdictions in the past, namely to sub-contract the review of plans to local and national engineering firms.

This probably would result in quicker, thorough, and more economical reviews, thus saving money for the city and the builder.
