A 78-year-old driver is in critical condition Wednesday after his van rear-ended an unmarked police car in Aurora.
The incident happened at about 1:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-225 near East Iliff Avenue, according to an Aurora Police Department media release.
The unmarked police car, with two undercover officers in it, was moving with the traffic flow, which was slow, when a green, Ford mini-van closed from behind at a high rate speed, police said.
The van hit the police car and then hit a retaining wall.
Emergency responders administered CPR to the driver of the van before taking him to Aurora South Medical Center. The two undercover officers were treated for minor injuries, police said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
