
It is a sad but perhaps inevitable trend that the nation’s largest theater chain will begin searching the bags of moviegoers.
Regal Entertainment Group, in which Philip Anschutz has a major financial interest, recently announced the new policy in order to enhance safety and protect itself from liability.
After the 2012 assault in an Aurora theater that killed 12 and injured 70, as well as recent apparent copycat attacks, it is no surprise that theaters would take up a bag-searching policy like airports and government buildings have. But it is a sad testament to our times.
We hope this is a temporary move that won’t be considered necessary in the near future.
