A to train more people for technology and software jobs gets its official Colorado introduction Thursday.
The TechHire event, hosted by the Innovation Pavilion in Centennial, aims to recruit veterans by sharing job training opportunities available to those in a post-military career.
The event is also open to employers in need of workers who have been trained in the program.
The event includes a panel led by Rep. Dan Pabon, D-Denver. Other panelists are from , a Techstars startup school for veteran-owned businesses; , which has committed to hiring veterans; and , a Denver coding school that recently to use the GI Bill to pay tuition.
TechHire announced last spring by President Barack Obama to train people for higher-paying tech jobs. Colorado was one of 20 regions chosen to be part of TechHire because of efforts like SeedPaths, which offers software training to low-income students.
In Colorado, TechHire research showed 19,801 job postings for open IT jobs last spring. Nationwide, there were a half-million unfilled jobs.
The two-hour event begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Innovation Pavilion is at 9200 E. Mineral Ave. in Centennial.
