Retired “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart viciously attacked WWE superstar John Cena with a steel chair at SummerSlam on Sunday night.

Bet that was a sentence you never expected to read.

The 52-year-old comedian, who served as host of the WWE pay-per-view, expanded upon his role and interfered in Seth Rollins and Cena’s winner-takes-all title match. Stewart climbed into the ring and walloped Cena in the gut with a steel chair, crushing the 15-time world champion’s dreams of tying the all-time record — and the hearts of children around the world.

Stewart has history with Rollins. Prior to WrestleMania 31, Rollins called out the long-time host, who responded by appearing on “Monday Night Raw.” Stewart kicked the now WWE World Heavyweight champion in the groin. Rollins would appear on one of Stewart’s final episodes of “The Daily Show” and later presented him with his own world title belt.

Fans have been speculating online why Stewart would side with Rollins and attack Cena. A popular opinion is that he doesn’t want to see Cena tie legendary wrestler Ric Flair’s mark of 16 world championships.

Cena responded on his Instagram this morning.

Stewart wasn’t the only celebrity who got in on the action. “Arrow” star Stephen Amell teamed up with Neville for a tag-team match against Stardust and King Barrett. :
