Weld County officials have arrested a man who sped away from deputies in a car chase, crashed and then disappeared into a corn field in the pre-dawn darkness Friday morning.

A 34-year-old man wanted on two arrest warrants out of Laramie County, Wyo. was arrested following a lengthy foot chase, said Cpl. Matt Turner, spokesman for the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

The name of the suspect has not been released.

At 4:26 a.m., deputies first approached a vehicle at a property where large oil storage tanks are located near Colorado 119 and Weld County Road 7.

“We’re not sure what he was doing there,” Turner said.

The as the deputy approached him to see why he was on the private property, he said.

A short car chase ensued.

the suspect crashed his vehicle near Weld County 26 and Weld County Road 5H, Turner said.

The man climbed out of the crashed vehicle and “fled on foot” toward Mead High School, near Weld County Road 7 and Weld County Road 28.

Deputies lost sight of the suspect as he scurried into a corn field, the news release says. The tall corn stalks provided temporary cover for the suspect.
