A man who died in the Boulder County Jail was identified Monday.

Robert Matthews, 42, of Louisville, was serving a 90-day sentence after being convicted of first-degree criminal trespass, according to a Boulder County Sheriff’s Office statement.

Matthews was found unconscious and unresponsive about 10:45 a.m. Sunday in his cell, the Sheriff’s Office said.

He was taken to a local hospital but could not be revived, the statement said. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Matthews was scheduled for release Sept. 30.

The death is being investigated by detectives with the Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
