Mike MacIntyre
Boulder — Rebuilding a disaster of a program that competes in a tough conference requires a lot of patience, not just for fans and anxious boosters but the head coach as well. Fortunately CU coach Mike MacIntyre has it.
He says it is “what you do in the quiet times, in the lonely times that helps you have the results. That takes time to build.”
He begins his third season late Thursday night in Hawaii with a 6-18 record in Boulder.
“Every year you’re under pressure, it’s how you deal with it,” MacIntyre said. “You’re always on the hot seat as a coach. Just like you’re the quarterback of a team, you’re always under the microscope. You have to do it the same way you always do it: What’s best for the program, what’s best for the young men on the team, what’s best for the team, and take it day by day, really minute by minute. And have a peace about yourself, be the same person every day. If you do that, and have a plan in place, you’ll end up being successful.”
What about fans? Boosters?
“I don’t look at things concerned about what other people think,” MacIntyre said. “I need to do what I feel is best for our team and treat young people the right way and the correct way, set the right foundation, the right basis and the right culture, and move forward.”
