A 33-year-old Lakewood sex offender has been arrested in Cancun, Mexico, on a 2007 child molestation charge, authorities say.
Aaron Alexander Graham was served with the arrest warrant at a prison in Cancun, according to a news release by Jeffrey Dorschner, spokesman for U.S. Attorney John Walsh.
“The arrest of Graham in Mexico underscores our commitment to pursuing these dangerous predators regardless of where they’re located,” said U.S. Marshal Ken Deal, who was promoted last week to his new position.
Members of the , in conjunction with Mexican law enforcement, tracked Graham to the Mexican prison on Aug. 25.
Mexican immigration officials deported Graham after it was learned he was wanted in the United States, Dorschner’s news release says.
Graham was turned over to U.S. Marshals’ custody on Aug. 26 in Miami. He was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail and is expected to appear at the Miami-Dade Circuit Criminal Court Tuesday where he will face extradition back to Colorado.
Graham was wanted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department on an August 2007 warrant for a charge of sex assault on a child. He is also wanted by the Lakewood Police Department for failure to register as a sex offender.
