A political campaign to advocate for women and families, as organizers characterize it, will launch Wednesday in Denver.

Local, state, and federal Democratic lawmakers will take part in the launch for the Stand With Women and Families campaign, organizers are expected to announce Tuesday.

The campaign launch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at at 1298 South Broadway.

Campaign leaders include the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights, called COLOR, 9to5 Colorado and ProgressNow Colorado.

“We need to create greater economic justice for low-income women, women of color and Latinas who face wage disparities and struggle to afford the care they need to lead successful, healthy lives,” COLOR executive director Cristina Aguilar said in a statement.

“COLOR is determined to ensure that leaders, stakeholders and elected officials stand with women and families for more equitable, non-discriminatory labor policies, for living wages, for paid sick leave and for forward thinking policies that meet the needs of women and families.”

The speakers will include. U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette of Denver, state Sen. Andy Kerr of Lakewood, Westminster City Council member Maria De Cambra and COLOR deputy director Corrine Rivera Fowler.

“It is a long-term effort to build political and community power in order to shape the policies that are being enacted in Denver and show decision makers that Coloradans want forward-thinking ideas that meet the needs of women and families and help Colorado to achieve economic and reproductive justice.”

“Women are more important to Colorado’s economy than ever before,” Amy Runyon-Harms, ProgressNow Colorado’s executive director said. “But at the state legislature this year, equality and reproductive rights for women were both under attack.

“Instead of limiting access to healthcare and refusing to address the growing problem of income inequality, we need to be working to ensure every woman in our state has the freedom and support to get ahead.” —
