The Colorado Springs Police Department is looking to reunite a box of old family photographs that the department found in a stolen car with its rightful owner.

The police department recovered a black box of family photos, postcards and letters dating to 1918, postcards and letters, according to a Wednesday news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Crime analysts completed a genealogy search, the release said, and tracked the family lineage to Elbert and Englewood.

The family names include Moberly, Peterson and Smith, police said.

“Unfortunately detectives were unable to link the box or the family names to current stolen property,” the release said.

Detectives are now hoping to find the owner of these family keepsakes. Anyone who knows the owners of the box is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000.
