Interview with Tyler Salazar, owner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: I grew up in a gymnastics family. My parents owned a successful gymnastics club for 20-plus years. I decided to follow in their footsteps. My wife and I owned two other gyms before starting this one in Saddle Rock.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: I consider our program a high level recreation program. We do not compete here at our gym. That being said, we get to focus on the fundamentals, progressions and skills of gymnastics, which is great not only for gymnastics but other sports that the children might be involved in. We have classes ranging from our Roli Poli’s (for age 18 months) to our Hot Shots, which is our highest level.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: Watching the kids build their confidence and self-esteem by learning new skills. Watching their faces and reactions when they learn a new skill is priceless.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: We try extremely hard to meet and speak with all parents at some point during their child’s time at the gym. We have some of the nicest parents around. Unfortunately, we don’t get time to talk to them more.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: The show “Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition” used our gym with one of their contestants during one of the episodes and it was on TV. It was pretty neat.
