Interview with Johanne Snavely, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: My business partner, Dave, convinced me to try CrossFit when I was looking for alternative ways to get into shape and prepare for a possible career in law enforcement. I love it, and became very passionate about CrossFit. I reached out to Dave about joining forces to create a business together. We had the same vision of creating a better community and helping be a positive part of peoples lives.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A:We really try to help individuals find balance — balance through their workouts, through nutrition, even in their personal lives. We try to push our client hard in the gym to help them confront and get past their limits, but we also want to be aware of when to pull back on the reigns and make sure they take rest days.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: We get to help people change their own lives. To make lifestyle decisions that can and do remain with them for the rest of their lives. Plus, I get to wear gym clothes to work.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Marketing. Most of our business comes from word of mouth. It is hard to reach out to people who are not familiar with CrossFit and convince them to come and try a class out. Many people do not realize that everything is customized for each individual. Even though CrossFit is in a class setting, we all do the workouts scaled to our own ability levels. This it is hard to show or convince people of before they come in.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: We are expanding. We are just a week or two from moving into our new location in the same parking lot. It’s a bigger space that will allow us to add a multitude of new programs.
