Interview with David Leasure, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I started working at Retro Barbers (then named Arvada Square Barbers) in 1985. The shop was opened in 1958 by Ron Linhardt. In 2012, I bought the shop from Ron. I remodeled the shop to its original setting. This shop is a true men’s barber shop.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: What sets Retro Barbers apart from others is its originality. We are one of the oldest businesses in the metro area. We pride ourselves in exceptional service, including old fashioned hot towel straight razor shaves, neck massages, flat tops and fades. The atmosphere is great; it’s as though you are transported back in time. We bake fresh cookies for our customers daily. The barbers are licensed and highly professional. The décor is reminiscent of the 1950s. Our customers love the personal attention they receive.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The satisfaction on the face of a customer. We love our work and are pleased to meet new people all the time. Nothing is more satisfying than a happy customer.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: The city of Arvada is tearing down the location making room for new condos. This will occur within the next two years or so.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: We are not religion-based, but our employees are God-fearing people.
