More than 170 Golden residents received a reverse 911 call early Wednesday advising them to lock their doors and stay inside as police searched for a man in a stolen truck who fled an attempted traffic stop.
Colorado State Patrol attempted to stop the truck for a traffic violation in Cold Creek Canyon at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a release.
The truck was damaged during the chase when the trooper attempted a maneuver to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued to drive into Golden.
Officers from Golden Police, CSP and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Officer followed the truck into a neighborhood near 19th and Illinois Streets where the driver abandoned the truck.
Police briefly set up a perimeter and searched for the suspect. Investigators determined the truck had been stolen out of Aurora.
Jefferson County Combined SWAT responded to assist in the search, according to the release.
A man called Golden police saying his girlfriend who lives in the area sent him a message stating she believed someone was in her house. Officers searched the home, but found no intruder.
Golden Police Dispatch sent a reverse 911 call at 12:20 a.m., asking them to report any suspicious people.
The suspect remains at large.
