Federal, state and local officials will be joined by military veterans Friday to officially rename the two Interstate 70 tunnels in Idaho Springs the Veterans Memorial Tunnels.
The renaming ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. at the trailhead parking lot off County Road 314 to Clear Creek.
The event had been scheduled for December but was delayed because of weather.
Officials will attend with members of the Clear Creek Veterans Coalition, Col. John W. Wagner of the U.S. Air Force, members of the 101st Army band and local first-responders.
The two tunnels have been known as the Twin Tunnels, but earlier this year, the Colorado Legislature renamed the facilities the Veterans Memorial Tunnels.
