The Loveland Police Department is investigating reports of two robberies at the Candlewood Suites near Interstate 25 and Crossroads Boulevard.

Police responded Friday to two victims who each claimed a man engaged them in conversation then grabbed their wallet and took off on foot, according to a Loveland Police Department news release.

The first victim told officers that he was approached by a heavy-set white man in his 30s who put his arm around the victim and told him “this guy had just won a bunch of money,” the news release said.

After the male victim “leaned on him,” the victim reached back to grab hold of his wallet but a second suspect pulled his arm away, the release said. The victim’s wallet allegedly fell to the ground and the second suspect, described as a white male with brown hair and a mustache, removed “a large amount of money” from the wallet, then ran.

The second victim told police that he was approached by a man who asked to come and congratulate another man who had won money at a casino. The victim said the suspect put his arm around him and walked him toward a group of men playing cards on the curb, the release said.

The victim was asked to join the game and “reluctantly” agreed after accepting money from the suspect, the release said.

When the victim won a round, the release said he pulled out his money clip, and the money was grabbed from his hand by the man “in charge” of the card game.
