intentionally clinical, repetitive songs are made for consideration, not dancing. But the German electronic music pioneer has nonetheless connected emotionally with a global audience over the past 45 years, elevating what could have been soulless art to a towering statement of sober (if often thrilling) minimalism. The bells and whistles are a bit louder these days — see the band’s current 3-D multimedia tour, which stops by the Ellie Caulkins Opera House for a 7 p.m. concert on Sept. 23 — but the gurgling synths, lockstep beats and wry commentary on society’s digital entanglement remain as strong as ever. Despite the distinct fear many DIY types are feeling about Denver’s cultural scene — namely, that condos, out-of-state transplants and party-bro culture are ruining Denver’s weirdo character — a thriving underground remains, particularly in the musical realm. The , which celebrates five years this weekend, is testament to that.
