Jefferson County authorities say that the body of a man found Sunday after extinguishing a burning car in a remote area of the county has officially been called a homicide.
The name of the victim has not been released.
Authorities were called to the the scene of a burning car on a steep embankment near the 9500 block of Cougar Road on Sunday at 11:40 a.m., according to Jacki Kelley, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.
Once the fire was extinguished, the remains of a man were located inside. The death was initially considered suspicious.
An autopsy was conducted Monday to try and determine the cause and the manner of death.
“Based on new evidence and information, this case is being investigated as a homicide,” a Tuesday news release says.
