ELDORA, Colo. (AP) — Officials say a leak from an old mine in Boulder County spilled 4,500 gallons of orange water into a creek.

They still don’t believe the spill in Eldora, spotted Monday, was toxic but the Environmental Protection Agency says it’s still waiting for results of tests for heavy metals in the water.

EPA spokeswoman Lisa McClain-Vanderpool told the Boulder Daily Camera (http://bit.ly/1NM3Shc ) that tests done on Monday showed the pH balance of the water, which would be affected by the presence of heavy metals, appeared to be within normal ranges.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office says the source of the seepage was the Swathmore Mine, where a plug had come loose. Water intake systems for Nederland and the city of Boulder were temporarily shut down while initial tests were done.
