Getting your player ready...

Peyton Manning got his first veteran day off on Wednesday. Coach Gary Kubiak said it’s the start of what will be a weekly routine.

Of course, Manning wasn’t thrilled to talk about getting less reps. He heard it all offseason but reiterated that he still gets all the mental reps that he can every day.

“We’ve kind of covered that,” Manning said. “I’m out there doing everything that I can — the walkthroughs and (seeing) the blitzes.”

Kubiak said all summer the plan would be to limit Manning’s practice snaps throughout the season. And after suffering seven sacks through two games, it might not be a bad idea.

He’s looking ahead to Sunday where he’ll face Detroit and his old Colts coach and current .

“I’m sure on the outside, the world is falling down for a team that’s 0-2. It seems like it’s falling down here and we’re 2-0,” Manning said. “I can assure you there’s no panic with him as their leader just like there is no panic here either.”

The Broncos might be the most heavily scrutinized 2-0 team in the league. Winning doesn’t cure everything apparently.

Both Kubiak and Manning said they are focused on improving offensively and know that their efforts through two weeks aren’t good enough.

Still, they aren’t ready to give it to public opinion.

“I try to avoid the noise all the time. We’re too busy to hear the noise,” Kubiak said laughing.

Broncos injury updates

• Cornerback Aqib Talib wasn’t at practice Wednesday. Kubiak said he sent him home after he was sick.

Two weeks ago, the Broncos sent home Andre Caldwell with a sickness as well. Kubiak said they’ve had a few guys bouncing around with it the last couple of weeks.

• Cornerback Kayvon Webster (ankle) missed practice for the second straight day. Webster was injured Thursday in the team’s thrilling win over the Chiefs.

• Safety Omar Bolden (foot) practiced Wednesday on a limited basis after missing Monday’s practice. He sat out in Thursday’s win over the Chiefs after suffering his injury Sept. 13 versus Baltimore.

• Defensive end Kenny Anunike (knee) practiced for the second straight day Wednesday. Kubiak said he has been doing limited workouts both days.

• Guard Louis Vasquez (war of attrition) returned to limited practice Wednesday after sitting on Monday recovering from the battles of playing two games in five days.

• Running back C.J. Anderson (toe/ankle), safety Darian Stewart (groin), and linebackers Brandon Marshall (finger) and Lerentee McCray (groin) were full participants.
