Goalie Reto Berra, who is in a positional battle with Calvin Pickard, will get a complete preseason game for the Avalanche on Thursday against the visiting Calgary Flames.

Avs coach Patrick Roy said Pickard will get his full game next Tuesday at Calgary.

Clear-cut No. 1 goalie Semyon Varlamov will start Sunday against the visiting Los Angeles Kings, following Colorado’s two-day visit to Vail. The Avs will depart for the high country Friday morning and begin a 11 a.m. practice Saturday at Dobson Ice Arena.

Colorado had two practice sessions Wednesday at its Centennial headquarters. Roy said 38-year-old forward Jarome Iginla did not practice because of a minor hip injury. He is day-to-day but will not play Thursday.

The Avs open the season Oct. 8 at home against the Minnesota Wild.
