Coldwell Banker’s top selling agent in Colorado, Louie Lee, specializes in homes that are the exact opposite of what buyers find in center-city neighborhoods, with their small lots and very high prices-per-square foot. Rather, Lee’s typical listing is on a site of an acre or better, with views and surroundings you’ll never find in city neighborhoods. He’ll show you 12 homes like that today, all in easy commuting range of the Denver Tech Center, and at prices that may be a wash compared to prices in some Denver city neighborhoods.

Troy and Kristen White made a trade like that in 2013, when they took a hard look at their pop-top bungalow in Wash Park, and decided to find something that would work better for them and their young kids.

Neither had heard of Castle Pines Village, off Happy Canyon Road seven miles south of Park Meadows mall, before they found it on a Google search. “As soon as we got off the freeway my blood pressure dropped,” Troy White recalls. The couple saw a forested terrain, inviting amenities, great views, and huge home sites. Lee showed them a home that was the same commuting time from Troy’s DTC office as their current place, at a price that would be pretty much a trade to what the Wash Park one would fetch in today’s market.

“Castle Pines is extremely beautiful,” Troy says now. “There are tons of families, and lots of activities.” The couple likes the top-rated schools and local restaurant scene, including at Castle Pines Village’s own shopping center at Happy Canyon and U.S. 85, with Tony’s market and Anthony’s pizza. Meanwhile, they’ve gone from a 6,800 square-foot lot in Denver (they played baseball in the alley, Troy recalls) to a lot roughly 10 times that size.

“You’re going to be amazed at the opportunities you can find in some smaller communities that get little attention today, but that offer lifestyles that are very appealing,” says Lee. Today, noon until 4 p.m., you can view all 12, or pick and choose those you’d like to see (For a full list, visit LeeTeamOpenHouse.com).

Louie will be hosting at 942 Aztec Drive, a remodeled home in Castle Pines Village with walkout lower level, big deck, full hardwood floors, 2-sided gas fireplace in the family room, big island kitchen, and a master with fireplace, all looking at a mountain view. It’s at $1.115 million (942Aztec.com). Nearby, Louie’s wife Melanie Lee will show you 2701 Castle Pines Drive N. at $2.1 million, with six bedrooms, over 8,000 square feet with pool, fire pit, hot tub and huge wraparound deck above the International Golf Course (2701CastlePines.com).
