Re: “In defense of Ben Carson’s comments on Muslims,” Sept. 25 letter to the editor.
In his letter criticizing The Post for its editorial on Ben Carson’s anti-Muslim views, Bill Emmerich displays his own one-sided views. Certainly, if a Muslim were to take a 100 percent literal acceptance of the Koran, it would not be very compatible with parts of our Constitution. But then again, if a Christian were to take a 100 percent literal acceptance of the Bible, that too might at times come into similar conflict.
Let us not forget that, read literally, the Bible condones and even recommends some pretty harsh stuff. Luckily, the vast majority of Christians in the U.S. do not have a 100 percent literal interpretation of the Bible. Likewise, I am sure that the vast majority of Muslims in the U.S. also do not have a 100 percent literal interpretation of the Koran. So let us not pretend or act as though they do. More fear-mongering and religion-baiting are not needed.
