A 44-year-old Fort Carson man was killed Sunday in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Fremont County.

Rafael Munoz-Baez died when he wrecked a 2005 Buell XB12S on Colorado 9, the Colorado State Patrol says. Investigators believe Munoz-Diaz was traveling northbound on the highway when he failed to negotiate a curve.

“The motorcycle traveled across the southbound lane before it left the roadway and traveled down an embankment,” the State Patrol said in a news release. “The motorcycle continued traveling off-road before it overturned and came to rest on its right side. As the motorcycle overturned, the rider was ejected.”

Munoz-Baez, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“At this time, drugs and alcohol are not considered to be contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation,” the release said.

Fort Carson officials did not immediately return a request for comment on Munoz-Baez’s connection, if any, to the Army.
