A 34-year-old man who assaulted a teen-age girl near Washington Park has been sentenced to four years in prison for a cold-case sexual assault that happened nine years ago.

Nathaniel Malcolm was convicted of one count of sexual assault on a child for the assault that happened in June 2006, according to Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey.

Malcolm’s DNA was matched to the case in 2013 after he was arrested for a felony in Eagle County.

Malcolm followed the two young girls, ages 10 and 14, for several blocks in the middle of a summer afternoon as they were walking to Washington Park.

Malcolm exposed himself and then came up behind the older sister, and pressed against her sexually. He then walked away.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy Dawn Weber as part of Denver’s Cold Case Project.
