Garfield County authorities say the pilot of a small, single-engine plane near Glenwood Springs, injuring two, was attempting an emergency landing when he went down.
The county sheriff’s office says witnesses report the plane, a Cessna 182G, appeared to be having engine trouble before it wrecked near Colorado 82 about 10 a.m. shortly after taking off from the Glenwood Airport.
It appeared that the pilot was attempting an emergency landing when the plane flipped over onto its back, the sheriff’s office said. “The passenger was able to get out of the plane, while the pilot had to wait for emergency responders to free him from the wreckage.”
The sheriff’s office says the plane’s owner will be responsible for the salvage and reclamation of the airplane from the crash site.
