A heavy blanket of fog is covering much of the Eastern plains Wednesday on the heels of recent rain showers, weather forecasters say.

Denver residents can expect cooler weather, with temperatures dropping to the low 60s by the weekend, said Kari Bowen, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

There is a slight chance for light rain and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and then again on Friday and Saturday, Bowen said.

Temperatures in the Denver area will be in the high 70s Wednesday, the low 60s by Saturday and mid-60s by Sunday afternoon. The low Wednesday morning was 54, Bowen said.

Visibility on the plains will be limited to anywhere from a few hundred feet to a mile because of fog, she said.
