The work at Colorado Correctional Industries to raise fish and make goat cheese for sale to the likes of Whole Foods But apparently some people think it would be better for these prisoners to while away their days in dreary idleness.

So now, in response to a protest in Texas against the sale of products from prison labor, Whole Foods has announced it will stop selling them. The grocery chain appears easily unnerved.

Protesters apparently object to the inmates’ low pay. Of course, if Colorado Correctional Industries paid prisoners the wage that prevails for such work on the outside, there would be protesters saying that’s unfair to people who’ve never committed crimes.

Let’s hope other companies that sell the products of prison industries don’t run for cover, too.
