GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — A proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in Oregon would give producers in the Piceance Basin an outlet to reach customers on the Pacific Rim.
The Grand Junction Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1NglFPc ) that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will have final say on the project in December, although the terminal got environmental approval last week.
Several western Colorado organizations back the development of the $7 billion Veresen Inc. terminal on Coos Bay. Executive director of the Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado Bonnie Petersen explained that the west coast facility would cut nine days off shipping to Asian markets.
Natural gas could be shipped from the terminal as early as 2020.
Conservation groups and private landowners have challenged the pipeline that would carry the natural gas across Oregon to the terminal.
