Colorado Springs police say a man wearing a box on his head and wielding a knife tried to rob a convenience store of gasoline on Monday night.

His attempt was thwarted, however, after the store’s clerk shooed him away and locked the shop’s doors.

Officers were called out about 11 p.m. to the attempted robbery on the 1800 block of North Circle Drive.

Police say the suspect, accompanied by a second man, ordered the store’s clerk to turn on the gas pumps before leaving. The suspects attempted to reenter the store, investigators said in a news release, but the clerk had locked the doors.

The two then fled in a vehicle.
