COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — El Paso County has agreed to pay $120,000 to settle two claims against former Sheriff Terry Maketa and other department employees.
The Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1WM1dHN ) the settlements agreed upon Tuesday for Sheriff’s Office employees, Cliff Porter and Wendy Habert, are the third and fourth approved by the board of commissioners in claims against Maketa and other employees.
Porter filed his claim in 2014 against Maketa and other former employees over alleged civil rights abuses as well as a hostile work environment based on sexual favoritism.
Habert filed in April, alleging she lost her job after making a sexual harassment claim.
The settlements come as a criminal investigation into the former sheriff continues over accusations of sexual impropriety, mishandling the annual budget and creating a hostile work environment.
